The US have targeted Syria for over a decade.

The Bush neocon regime are signatories to the PNAC.

The Project for the New American Century (PNAC) was a neoconservative[1][2][3] think tank based in Washington, D.C. that focused on United States foreign policy. It was established as a non-profit educational organization in 1997, and founded by William Kristol and Robert Kagan.[4][5] The PNAC's stated goal was "to promote American global leadership".[6] The organization stated that "American leadership is good both for America and for the world," and sought to build support for "a Reaganite policy of military strength and moral clarity".[7]

Of the twenty-five people who signed the PNAC's founding statement of principles, ten went on to serve in the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush, including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz.[8][9][10][11] Observers such as Irwin Stelzer and Dave Grondin have suggested that the PNAC played a key role in shaping the foreign policy of the Bush Administration, particularly in building support for the Iraq War.[12][13][14][15]

Rebuilding America's Defenses

Written before the September 11 attacks, and during political debates of the War in Iraq, a section of Rebuilding America's Defenses entitled "Creating Tomorrow's Dominant Force" became the subject of considerable controversy. The passage suggested that the transformation of American armed forces through "new technologies and operational concepts" was likely to be a long one, "absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor."[45] Journalist John Pilger pointed to this passage when he argued that Bush administration had used the events of September 11 as an opportunity to capitalize on long-desired plans.[48]

The Bush regime targeted Syria along with several other countries back to the time of the first Iraq invasion (for non-existent "weapons of mass destruction" and a non-existent connection to 9/11).

Syria has been on their list since day one. Note that Iraq is one of the five largest crude oil reserves in the world. So is Iran, which is also on their list. The other three of that top five are OPEC and US allies.

Continuing:

A WikiLeaks document appears to show US plans to destabilize Syria back in 2006

There have been several conspiracy theories when it comes to the US involvement with Daesh (ISIS) — creating the militant group to overthrow Assad and destabilize the region. This document appears to support some of those theories.

Did you see that? The US creating and being involved with ISIS to overthrow Syria? THERE IT IS.

2012: Evidence the US knew what was forming in Syria

Obama continues the Bush / neocon direction:
"In one of the riskiest gambles of his presidency, Mr. Obama effectively dared lawmakers to either stand by him or, as he put it, allow President Bashar al-Assad of Syria to get away with murdering children with unconventional weapons."

Obama said the U.S. is going on offense, launching “a steady, relentless effort to take out” the extremist group that has seized vast swaths of Iraq and has a large safe haven in Syria, “wherever they exist.”

So one minute he's concerned about Assad supposedly murdering children and the next, something entirely different. THINK OF THE CHILDREN obviously didn't work. Also note that he was going to bomb Syria without Congressional approval; he levelled Libya without Congressional approval.

Obama And Biden Have Said Military Action Without Congressional Approval Is Unconstitutional

So he doesn't know why he's bombing Syria and has bombed two countries without Congressional approval...and it's clearly part of the Bush / neocon agenda. He doesn't want boots on the ground in Syria but putting boots on the ground in Syria is consistent with having said no boots on the ground in Syria.
Had enough?

Here's a short, scathing video detailing the bullshit involved:

BUY WHY?

Syria is the only significant crude oil producing country in the Eastern Mediterranean region, which includes Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and the Palestinian territories. According to the Oil and Gas Journal, Syria had 2,500,000,000 barrels (400,000,000 m3) of petroleum reserves as of 1 January 2010.[31]

Stock Prices of Weapons Manufacturers Soaring Since Paris Attack

Note how immediate the increases are: the markets could barely wait to start buying. The Dow overall is up today only .12%, making these leaps quite pronounced. Reuters, as published on Fox Business, starkly noted the causal connection: “shares of aerospace and defense rose sharply on Monday in reaction to the attacks in France.” The private-sector industrial prong of the Military and Surveillance State always wins, but especially when the media’s war juices start flowing.

McCain and ISIS

And of course, Iran is Syria's #1 ally with a mutual aggression pact...and Iran is on the neocon/PNAC list, so trolling Syria helps the entire process...also, Israel is the US's #1 ally, and they desperately want war upon Iran, so there's that...and ISIS never, ever attack Israel...

Neocon Kagan Endorses Hillary Clinton

"The fact is that Clinton has generally marched in lock step with the neocons as they have implemented an aggressive “regime change” strategy against governments and political movements that don’t toe Washington’s line or that deviate from Israel’s goals in the Middle East. So she has backed coups, such as in Honduras (2009) and Ukraine (2014); invasions, such as Iraq (2003) and Libya (2011); and subversions such as Syria (from 2011 to the present) all with various degrees of disastrous results."
